As a summer student, you will get hands-on experience and work alongside our dynamic team of workplace lawyers while gaining exposure to our wide-ranging client base. Our clients are at the heart of everything we do and range from small businesses to top-tier employers representing every sector of the Canadian economy. Students participate in our professional development program including seminars, lunch and learns and meetings on a variety of topics that focus on developing both substantive and practical legal knowledge, practice management and research skills. We want our summer students to gain as much exposure as possible to the different workplace law practice areas and types of clients during the short time you are with us.
Mentorship is an important element of life at Roper Greyell. Everyone you meet here should be viewed as potential mentors as you learn what it is like to work in a law firm. Every Roper Greyell team member has an experience and view point that could be helpful to you during your articling or summer articling period and your future career as a lawyer. Along with this informal mentorship, we also have a more formal mentoring program to help students. You will be assigned both an Articling Principal and an Associate Mentor.
Your Principal is a partner or senior lawyer at the firm who is there to help maximize your experience by being a guide through your time at the firm. During the time you are at the firm you will be connected with an associate who has volunteered to participate in our associate mentoring program. The aim of this program is to help facilitate your introduction to the firm and provide a peer mentor who has recently or relatively recently been through the articling experience.
