FAQ

We practice in all areas of workplace law, including employment, labour, human rights, privacy, health and safety, and investigations. See the Expertise section of our website for more details.

Each student experience is different. However, each experience comes with an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the area of workplace law. See the Student Programs section of our website for detailed information.

We aim to hire 2-4 summer students each year. Our returning summer students typically comprise our articling student cohort.

The students we hire do not just fulfil a list of pre-determined criteria. They have taken different paths to get to the start of their legal careers with unique life and work experiences. What they all have in common is a team approach and a demonstrated interest to work in the multi-faceted area of workplace law.

We understand that many law students will have little to no workplace law experience or training at the time of application. Our advice: if you have a budding interest in what we do, apply. You can learn more about us and the practice areas that comprise workplace law during the application and interview process. That information will help you to make an informed choice on whether we’re the right fit for you and your career goals.

Overwhelmingly, our students tell us they are surprised by the variety in a workplace law practice. That said, if you want a student experience that will include M&A or family law, we’re likely not the firm for you. And that’s okay – part of the student recruitment process is reflecting on your interests and refining where to focus your time and energy.

We comply with the VBA’s Summer Student Recruitment Guidelines, including all student recruitment cycle dates.

Your application will be reviewed by our Student Committee, and those candidates moving forward to the next stage in the process will be notified in accordance with the VBA’s Student Recruitment Guidelines.

We strive for transparency in our recruitment process, and applicants with questions about their candidacy or who require additional information to make an informed decision about RG are encouraged to reach out to Chira Perla, Director of Professional Development, for assistance.
