Certification Trends / Union Drives

In the last few years the Labour Relations Code (British Columbia) has been amended to circumscribe employer free speech rights regarding the topic of unionization, and to allow for union certification of an employer if 55 percent or more of employees in a proposed bargaining unit have signed a union membership card, without any subsequent voting, if the proposed bargaining unit is appropriate. In the wake of these amendments, there has been an increase in unionizations, including in the private sector, and often the first an employer is learning about unionization is when a certification application is filed. This on-demand webinar examines these legislative changes, the impact of these changes and how adjudicators have interpreted these changes. The purpose of this webinar is to provide employers with knowledge of the legal landscape, such that the employer can act in a lawful, proactive fashion regarding union drives, instead of being reactionary. This webinar will also explore trends and best practices.
