Roper Greyell LLP was pleased to be a Gold sponsor for the 43^rd Annual Chinese Legal Community Banquet on Friday, July 25^th at Sun Sui Wah Seafood Restaurant. Justin D. Wong and Kristi Wong of Roper Greyell hosted a table where attendees enjoyed a traditional 10-course Chinese banquet and interacted and engaged with UBC law students.

The event’s panel of speakers included Anna Fung, K.C., Lana Li, and Iven Tse, who led a discussion that explored how the legal profession has changed over the decades and how law students and junior lawyers can explore the diverse opportunities offered by the profession.

About the Event:

Since 1979, the UBC Chinese Law Students’ Association has hosted an annual banquet for lawyers and students to socialize over a traditional full-course Chinese dinner in recognition of the great cultural diversity in the Greater Vancouver legal community.

This event, whose aim is to draw attendance not only from members of the Chinese legal community, but practitioners from all different cultural backgrounds, allows lawyers and law students to connect, share stories, and discuss issues facing the legal profession.

Roper Greyell is thrilled to celebrate Maggie Williams’ call to the BC Bar. Pictured here is Maggie’s proud principal, Alissa Demerse. Maggie’s journey at Roper Greyell began as a summer student, she then returned to the firm to complete her articles and now we are pleased to welcome Maggie to Roper Greyell as an associate practicing in all areas of workplace law. Congratulations, Maggie!

This week we had the pleasure of celebrating Steven Parker’s call to the BC Bar. Steven’s principal, Brandon Hillis, administered the Barristers and Solicitors’ Oath, with Steven’s family, friends, and RG colleagues on-hand to celebrate. Steven summered and articled with Roper Greyell and joins the firm as an associate practicing in all areas of workplace law. Congratulations, Steven – we are proud and excited to have you continue with the team!

Roper Greyell was proud to sponsor the TRU Women in Law Society’s The Practical Aspect: What They Don’t Teach You panel and networking reception on March 13, 2025 in Kamloops. Co-hosted by 2025/26 articling student Larissa DeWolff, Roper Greyell’s Jenny Devins was a featured panelist at the event, where lawyers and law students explored what it means to be a woman in the legal profession – from challenging norms and breaking barriers to thoughtfully building a fulfilling and balanced legal career.  A tip of our hat to the student organizers – we were grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this inspiring and successful community-building event!

Roper Greyell was delighted to sponsor the Allard School of Law’s 48^th Annual Women in Law Dinner on March 12, 2025. The theme of this year’s Dinner was fostering community and building connection, which featured keynote addresses from the Right Honourable Beverley McLachlin, P.C., C.C., CStJ and Counsel for Justice Canada Isabel Jackson. Roper Greyell’s Chira Perla, Norika Takacs-Rehm, Shayna (Clarke) Grubner, Donna Chapman-Jones, and Kiran Mangat were joined by four Allard School of Law student guests at this important and fun event that celebrates the varied experiences, backgrounds, and unique strengths of women in law.

It’s been a busy few months of networking with BC law students for the Roper Greyell Team!

Chira Perla, Andrew Peng, Steven Parker, and Larissa DeWolff were delighted to connect with law students at Career Fairs hosted by UBC’s Peter A. Allard School of Law (January 23), UVic’s Faculty of Law (January 31), and TRU’s Faculty of Law (March 7).

The Career Fair often represents law students’ first opportunity to connect broadly with potential legal employers. Many congratulations to all of the BC law students who put themselves “out there” by showing up and popping by Roper Greyell’s table to learn more about what we do. It was our pleasure to meet you!

Congratulations to Theo Terry and Sam Spartano, the Allard School of Law’s Moot Team, who competed at the 2025 National Labour Arbitration Competition in Toronto on February 1. The team performed exceptionally in both their union and employer side arguments. The judges in both panels complimented the quality of their presentation, stressing confident advocacy styles and bold approach to the arguments.

Roper Greyell is a proud sponsor of the Competition, in which Jennifer Russell (Partner) and Alie Teachman (Associate) advised and coached the 2025 Allard School of Law’s Moot Team.
